About

Movement is medicine.

Soma Pilates is built on a lifetime inside movement — and a genuine wish to help people achieve a healthy state in body, mind and spirit. Liv has a deep interest in how we optimise our health and wellbeing to live a happy, fulfilled life: this is a place for ease and freedom of movement in everyday life, and better health and vitality through movement.

The name

Soma — the body, felt from within.

Soma is the ancient Greek word for the living body: not the body as it looks from the outside, but the body as you experience it from within. That inward attention — how a movement feels, not how it looks — is what this studio is built around: a healthy state in body, mind and spirit.

Portrait photography to come — this space is waiting for it.

Your teacher

Forty years in movement. Thirty years of teaching.

Born in New Zealand, Liv started dancing at age seven and went on to become a professional contemporary dancer after completing a BA in Dance in Australia. She is a lifelong movement practitioner — developing her own conscious movement practice for over forty years and teaching movement for more than thirty.

Her teaching qualifications span dance, yoga, qi gong, bodylight™ and BASI Pilates, and she has worked with many different bodies and levels of ability. The conviction underneath it all has never changed: she believes wholeheartedly that movement is medicine.

How we work

What a class here believes.

Seen beats sweaty

Five people on the mat at most, four on the apparatus. Nobody in the back row, because there is no back row.

Precision is progress

One centimetre of honest alignment does more than ten fast repetitions. We move slowly on purpose.

Every body starts where it is

New, returning, recovering, strong — the work scales to you, never the other way around.

The room

A home studio on Klostergatan.

A warm, cosy and professional studio space in Liv's home in central Linköping — small, private and perfectly formed, with a professional edge. Two Peak reformers, eight mats, arcs, magic circles and a shelf of smaller apparatus — everything a full practice needs, and nothing it does not.

Studio photography to come.

Every moment of your life can be the beginning of great things.
